Given current global supply chain snafus and new vehicles shortages—add in the demand/ supply ‘profiteering’ of rental operators—some thumbs upward, again flexibility being key:

• Research and reserve rentals as early as possible—say, 8 to 24 weeks in advance for better availability and sealable deals.
• Off-major airports and railway stations may offer available cars/vehicles at lower rates.
• Track rental rates periodically, with the notion that you can cancel and rebook at the sign of any ‘flash’ discounts and/or price drops.
• Consider a hybrid or electric vehicle, which may be cheaper fuel-wise.
• In any event, you might want to book through local smaller, independent rental operators, or peer-to-peer vehicle sharing services (e.g., Turo) in pursuit of the best rental values.   < Go or Woe?
